Volunteer
The ELiTE team is always looking for new members. We seek to build relationships with international teachers, local mentors, university students, university professors, university administrators, established professionals, high school students, website gurus, and local transportation providers, among others. However, there are a few ways to volunteer that are particularly crucial to the organization:
Become an ELiTE Program Facilitator (SITE)
ELiTE relies upon it’s program facilitators to implement the SITE program over the summer. The facilitator corps is composed of enthusiastic, dedicated and capable individuals, across a wide range of ages and backgrounds, who travel to the SITE programs each year to bring the ELiTE Mission to life. If you are interested in becoming a SITE facilitator and you think you have what it takes, then please view the attached document for more information.
Assist the Support Staff
The majority of the work that goes on at ELiTE takes place behind the scenes. The Board and support staff take care of all the administrative work necessary to run ELiTE’s implementation activities, while developing the various ELiTE curricula to provide an evolving and relevant educational experience for ELiTE’s students. The support staff undertakes a variety of activities including, but not limited to:
- Curricula design
- Travel coordination
- Media management
- Website management
- Publicity
- Fund-raising
- International relations
- Facilitator training
If any of these activities capture your interest, and you wish to join the ELiTE team as part of the support staff, please contact Chelsey Roebuck at Chelsey [at] elite-education.org.
Volunteer with a local ELiTE program
ELiTE runs programs in New York City throughout the year, in partnership with existing community organizations. The domestic partnerships are used to implement the ELiTE mission on a local scale. The local programs provide future facilitators with the experience necessary to hone their leadership skills and a familiarity with the curriculum before traveling abroad.
Keep in mind that ELiTE’s local programs require many more facilitators than the international SITE programs can support. The experience of being an ELiTE facilitator in a local program is immensely rewarding, and can offer a more relaxed alternative to the international experience. If you are interested in implementing ELiTE’s mission on a local level, please contact Chelsey Roebuck at Chelsey [at] elite-education.org for more information.
Join the ELiTE social network
ELiTE has partnered with university student groups in the United States and abroad to establish mentor relationships for our students throughout the year. ELiTE established a NSBE-Jr. chapter in Nsawam, Ghana in 2010 as part of NSBE’s Pre College Initiative (PCI) and supports mentoring for students with the Columbia University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers.
If your student group would like to mentor under exposed students from developing communities who are interested in science or technology we would be happy to assist in establishing a relationship with our students. Please submit a brief proposal to one of our country directors and we will gladly assist.
